The most powerful cars on the planet

Despite the drive to build efficient vehicles that are fuel efficient, with smaller engines, top speed runs are getting a boost. Automakers have made significant progress in aerodynamics and found ways to cut emissions restricting production to a minimum.

In contrast to other metrics used to distinguish the two types of vehicles for example, zero-to-60-mph times cornering G-forces, quarter-mile times, establishing the new record for top speed is extremely difficult.

They are among the most powerful cars on the planet. Most of them have been tested to be top speed records, and a handful are claimed to have top speed figures. This list also includes several models that would be able to set records were they to enter production.

1. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+: 304 mph

In August of 2019, Bugatti topped the formerly dominant Hennessey Venom F5. Then, Bugatti's Chiron Super Sport 300+ was also the first vehicle to reach 300 miles an hour at the speed of. The record for the final time was 304.773 mph, with the race driver Andy Wallace at the wheel at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany. If 300+ mph is impossible to comprehend, it's not because you're lacking imagination. covering the distance of 450 feet in one second is a mind-bending feat. Just 30 of these quad-turbo 16-cylinder, 8-liter engine are expected to be built at a price of $3.9M each.

2. Hennessey Venom F5: 301 mph (Claimed)

Hennessey Performance Engineering previously owned the top spot on this list thanks to the Venom F5. A successor to record-breaking Venom GT, the F5 has a claimed and theoretical highest speed of 331 miles per hour, beating the second fastest car by a significant margin.

The Venom F5 utilizes a carbon fiber chassis, and is driven by the 7.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine that can produce 1,600 horsepower. Although Hennessey is yet to validate its claims regarding the F5 is said to accelerate from 249 to 0 and back down to zero in under 30 seconds.

3. SSC Tuatara 295 miles per hour

On the 10th of October in 2020 SSC announced that the enormous Tuatara had an top speed of 316.11 miles per hour on its way to establish a new record for the fastest production vehicle around the globe. Things turned sour for SSC after the test. The speed record was scrutinized since people were able to spot inaccuracies in SSC's video footage.

Due to all the hype, SSC headed to Johnny Bohmer Proving Ground in Florida to try a second run on May 14 2022. The Tuatara reached the speed of the speed of 205 miles per hour. This isn't quite 331 mph SSC promises however it's real and doesn't involve any amusing commercial.

4. Koenigsegg Agera RS: 278 mph

If you're just interested in evidence-based claims then the world's top automobiles list skips the Hennessey as well as SSC and resumes by introducing this Koenigsegg Agera RS. Koenigsegg as well as its Agera RSR wore the tested VMAX crown, which has the average speed of 278 mph.

Koenigsegg showed up with the customer-owned Agera RS and Koenigsegg factory driver Niklas Lilja clocked two ultra-fast runs (in opposite directions). The average speed (including one run that was 285 miles per hour) has been recorded on the Guinness Book of World Records.

5. Hennessey Venom GT: 270 mph

The year 2014 was the first time Hennessey unveiled a Frankenstein-inspired Lotus supercar that had the 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and 1,244 horsepower. Up until that point the company based in Texas only modified performance vehicles however this was their first standalone build.

With the approval of The Kennedy Space Center, Hennessey reached a top time that was 270.4 mph. Although there was no doubt that the Guinness Book of World Records has endorsed the race, it was met with a fair amount of criticism. One reason is that the majority of top-speed records are derived from two separate runs (like Koenigsegg did with the Agera RS). Additionally it is worth noting that the Venom GT is a hand-built production vehicle that is not mass-produced.

6. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 268 mph

In the days before Hennessey and Koenigsegg joined the race for top speed, Bugatti dominated the world's fastest class. In contrast to the newcomers, Bugatti benefitted from the huge cash reserves of the main shareholder, Volkswagen. A huge investment of time and resources produced the Bugatti Veyron model in 2005. This $1.7-million Veyron utilized a quad-turbocharged W16 engine that delivered 1,001 horsepower to the four wheels.

It was impressive, but this 250-mph Veyron was quickly surpassed by the more powerful 256-mph SSC Ultimate Aero. Bugatti returned on the drawing boards, and came back in the form of Veyron Super Sport. Veyron Super Sport. Bugatti also came up with the convertible version, known as the Grand Sport Vitesse, which is still the world record holder for the most powerful open-top production vehicle at 254 miles per hour.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero TT: 265 mph

To find the seventh fastest car on the planet we must go back to 2007. On September 24, 2007, Shelby Supercars (SSC) Ultimate Aero TT set a new record in the world by achieving 257 mph. The race was conducted by the company on a closed road in Washington State.

The car with the wedge shape appeared out of thin air and beat the formidable Bugatti as well as Koenigsegg. It was able to do this due to twin turbocharged 6.3-liter V8 engine producing 1,183 horsepower.

8. McLaren Speedtail: 250 mph

It's a shame that the McLaren Speedtail has an asterisk due to its top speed, because it didn't make the top speed test in the same manner as other supercars in this list, and it's not legal for street use on the streets of the U.S. The story of the method by which McLaren tried to test its top speed fascinating in that the automaker's testing prototype, dubbed the XP2 has been reported to have clocked 250 mph over 30 times, says McLaren. The tests are part of the McLaren's test procedures and were conducted on Kennedy Space Center. Kennedy Space Center runway in Florida.

In contrast to the majority of cars listed, McLaren wasn't attempting to make a new speed record using the Speedtail. However, the aerodynamic body and a massively-powered electric powertrain create the car built to speed. It's equipped with twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that's coupled with an electric motor to produce the combined power 135 horsepower.
